Dr. Brandy McKinney, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C is a proud Native American Indian (Lumbee Indian Tribe) from Lumberton, NC.  Dr. McKinney is a Doctorate-level dually certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Dr. McKinney received her education and training from the University of New Hampshire, Capella University, The University of Akron, and Kent State University.

Dr. McKinney has worked in healthcare since 2000 and has a diverse background in mental health including psychiatric emergency, critical care medicine, community practice, and family medicine. Dr. McKinney’s patients have benefited from her caring attitude and empathetic ear. Having such a diverse medical background Dr. McKinney has witnessed the need for mental healthcare in the community. Dr. McKinney utilizes evidence-based practice and patient education to provide care that is individualized and safe for her patients.

She is most often heard saying, “It’s time for us to normalize mental health in our community, it starts with us.”

The name Cross My Heart Wellness was derived from a saying Dr. McKinney was taught as a little girl when she wanted to make a promise to someone. While making a Cross (a small “T”) with her finger across her heart she would say, “I cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.” This saying and gesture represented that a promise was completely true and sincere. Her promise to care for her patients is true, sincere, and one she plans to hold dear to her heart.

In her spare time, Dr. McKinney enjoys volunteering in the community and submerging herself into Missionary work, especially in Ecuador. She also enjoys speaking on Healthcare topics in the community.
